Committees And Their Missions

There are three committees and one task force dedicated to bringing Electronic Data Interchange in the cable marketplace to fruition. Each of these are listed below, along with their mission statements. By clicking on the name of each committee, you can visit a special section of this website that provides more information on the committee and its members.

Implementation Committee
The Implementation Committee's mission is to provide a forum in which all issues, concerns and ideas can be freely presented and discussed by those interested in conducting electronic commerce in the cable advertising network industry. Activities include education, advice, support, pilot experience feedback and a technology review forum. The Implementation Committee is made up of representatives from cable networks, advertising agencies, vendors and service bureaus and anyone interested in implementing EDI.

EDI Task Force
The EDI Task Force works in conjunction with the Design Committee and the ESC to identify and provide recommendations for resolving problems associated with electronic trading. The EDI Task Force is comprised of representatives from cable networks and advertising agencies.

Design Committee
This committee's mission is to provide technical and operational support to the cable industry's electronic commerce efforts and to develop implementation guidelines and strategies in support of business solutions as defined by the Executive Steering Committee. The committee's charter guides it to: support ongoing efforts of the ESC; design solutions and develop standards based on the electronic commerce requirements of the cable industry; maintain and disseminate current and new versions of the TECC Specifications; obtain industry and ASC X12 approval of transition specifications for cable EDI; and resolve issues arising from the TECC Implementation Committee and EDI Task Force and incorporate resolutions into the TECC standards.

Executive Steering Committee (ESC)
In 1993, members trying to implement electronic commerce recognized the need for an industry governing body that could establish business practices that would facilitate the expansion of electronic commerce in cable. In 1994, the Executive Steering Committee (ESC) was formed by executives from both the agency community and cable networks to lead the development and implementation of EDI. Business goals and new business practices were established by this committee and a specific plan was created for the implementation of these changes for the way cable is bought and sold. The ESC and TECC Committees went to develop electronic commerce projects. This committee meets two to three times a year to address any difficulties which are encountered due to electronic commerce.
